FAQs

It’s a little different for everyone. Some signs that you might need help from a professional are when the way you feel begins to negatively impact your sleep, your job, appetite, relationships with friends and loved ones, or your decision-making. Other indicators that it’s time to seek out a trained professional to help could be if you find that you feel “empty” or “blue” most days, or you are struggling to enjoy seemingly enjoyable moments.

Ultimately, the goal of therapy is to identify the areas where change or help is needed, identify the root causes behind the struggles you are experiencing, and equip you with resources and coping strategies to move forward in a healthier way. Since the needs and goals of every client are different, therapy sessions vary in format and approach. In general, I will listen and ask questions in a way that will help you gain increased self-awareness and better understanding of your emotions.

It is also important to know that the relationship between a therapist and client is completely confidential. You do not have to worry about others knowing what you are going through and do not have to fear being judged or criticized for what you share.

Medication can be effective but it alone cannot solve all issues. Sometimes medication is needed in conjunction with counseling, but this is not the case for everyone. Our work together is designed to explore the problems you are experiencing and expand on your strengths that can help you grow and reach your personal goals. A therapist does not have the credentials to prescribe medication, but can refer you to medical professionals for this service if it is needed.

A typical session will last 50 minutes. How often we meet will be determined based on your personal needs and goals. We will discuss frequency of sessions at your initial appointment.
